Acupuncture During Pregnancy

Morning Sickness
Many women find relief from the daily bouts of nausea & vomiting through weekly acupuncture sessions.  An acupuncture point on your wrist helps to relax the diaphragm, and calm the stomach, plus has the added benefit of calming anxiety.

Pain
Your body is going through so many changes right now, it's no wonder you may be discovering new aches and pains.  If you are concerned about taking over the counter pain medications, acupuncture offers a drug-free option.  There is also a massage therapist in my office trained in pregnancy massage.

Labor Induction
The number of hospital inductions seem to be rising.  If you are nearing your due date, and want to avoid this, acupuncture can help. There are specific points to soften the cervix, and others that encourage the uterus to contract.  This treatment is only appropriate for women who have had an uncomplicated pregnancy, and  whose baby is not breach.  Many women choose to get weekly treatments the last 4 weeks of their pregnancy as preparation for labor.  Studies in Germany have shown this reduces the need for medical induction, shortens labor time, and speeds post partum recovery.

Post Partum Health
During labor, your body becomes depleted by losing so much blood and "Qi" (vital energy).  Combine this with lack of sleep, breastfeeding, and a whole new set of responsibilities, and you can become adrenally exhausted.  Acupuncture and herbs can help build your reserves back up, soothe your nerves, and get your hormones back into balance.
